A student-led club at Pepperdine's Seaver College: speaker events, student-run seminars, a colloquium series, and discussions open to anyone who wants to think out loud. No prerequisites, no major required.
Philosophy as something students do, not only study
The club has always been mostly student-run. It was revived by Nathan Thomas, carried on by Arik Chu, and is now led by presidents Giovanni Naccari and Ellis Adams, with Prof. Derek Estes of the Religion and Philosophy Division as faculty advisor.
Over the years we have hosted speaker events with metaphysicians, ethicists and theologians from across the country, alongside charity donation drives, writing competitions and student-led discussions. This fall brings a colloquium series with five visiting and Pepperdine speakers, student-run seminars, and perhaps a movie night.
Members also write. The Pepperdine Logos, an independent publication run by students and alumni, has published more than thirty articles — on Aquinas and human dignity, theodicy, romantic love, gratitude, Nolan's Odyssey. Anyone in the Pepperdine humanities who will put their name to a piece can contribute.
